After what has been days with no change, our visit this afternoon has left us feeling really upbeat. Dave was reaching up with his right hand to scratch the back of his head and his nose, rubbing his forehead and his eyes, both of which were open today. Although the movements are quite gentle it is amazing to see such positive actions. When the nurse came to do his obs at 4 pm, she pressed his left shoulder and asked him to push her away - up came his right arm to do just that. At 2pm she had had no reaction! Mind you we did laugh when the nurse was shining the torch in his right eye and obviously seeming puzzled that there was no reaction. We politely reminded her that he has a glass eye! I think she felt a little stupid.
Rob had left a card for him yesterday so I showed it to him and he put his hand out to hold it with his thumb and forefinger. He also seemed very interested in the photo of Mwanza, Tanzania you had sent us Faith. His head was turning to whichever one of us was talking too and although there is still nothing happening on the left side I am sure that will come eventually.
Roger and Margaret are going in to see Dave in a minute so I hope he keeps it up for them too. Perhaps he has finally thrown that six.

That is brilliant news at long last to read something positive and a very big step forward. Please would you tell Dave that Paul, Barry and I are going to visit on Wednesday between 2.30-4.30pm and he had better wake up before then as we think this sleeping lark has gone on quite long enough! We’ve been putting all this training in the last 2 weekends, in preparation for Dave to show us where he used to race in the Dordogne. Colin said to tell Dave how proud he would be of us all, when on the return from Lulworth, he and Clive pushed the pace right up to racing speed, (well, that's my racing speed carrying panniers too!), in their endeavours to help me catch the train at Yeovil Junction. We whizzed past Yetminster Station at break neck speed nearly overshooting the turnoff for Stoford in their enthusiasm to get me to the station for my train. Thankfully, Sarah had noticed in time for us to back only to find I was an hour early! All good fun though and a wonderful weekend’s cycling. We even saw the Cerne Giant being cleaned and went into that nice cafĂ© with the Welcome Cyclists sign, though this time in the brilliant sunshine and not the pouring rain!
Angela from Kingsbridge asked me to say she is thinking of him remembering the lovely weekends he organised both at Salisbury and Lulworth.
Ron from Yetminster – I would like to return your book “A Thousand Splendid Suns” which you kindly loaned me when we all went to “Show of Hands” at the Sidmouth Folk Festival in August. Perhaps I can leave it with Dave when we come up on Wednesday. Thank you Ron, I really enjoyed reading it, though I did think “The Kite Runner” was better.
Hi Dave,
Only learnt about your temporary change of address on Sunday. I was cycling to Kingsbury to meet Peter bellringing on my Miss Marple bike, no gears but full chain case and wicker basket, when along came a lycra clad young man. Well, you know me, talk to anyone, he turned round and joined me on my trip. In conversation your news came up. Peter and I tried twice to leave a comment but both times they vanished. No one locally could help us with this technology so I emailed Roger of Nova Scotia fame who has sent us instructions so here we are again.
As the non note taking secretary of the NSRS I have been busy with the agenda for the AGM. Pleased to read you have had a visit from our gracious Lady President, she adds a touch of class. As Treasurer, you must remember the meeting in the Gaboose at Louisbourg. You should be aware that the balance sheet now stands at zero since our chairman dispatched a ten dollar note across the Atlantic in a plain envelope.
I read in the Sunday papers that the chinese are expecting a lunar eclipse combined with a tidal bore as you so enjoyed the 2005 bore we thought we would discuss travel arrangements at the AGM.
Keep battling Dave and get those cranks spinning.
Peter and Nicky xx
